THE MYPT STORY

After years of practice in outpatient orthopedics, Virginia recognized that her patients' goals weren't necessarily "covered under insurance." In a healthcare system that does not focus on prevention or sports performance, patients would frequently stop treatment before reaching their terminal goal. Then, they would come back weeks, months, or years later with an injury directly related to the previous one. This cycle is repeated over and over again and something has to change.

myPT was founded with the patient in mind. Virginia noticed that patients were cut off from more visits if they didn't progress fast enough, plateaued, or progressed too fast. Orthopedic conditions frequently take time to respond, change or improve, and unfortunately insurance companies don't like to wait. But, outside of insurance-directed care, your problem will be treated for as long you need to get the results you want. That's what you get at myPT.

MEET VIRGINIA

Virginia Lanier PT, DPT is the owner of myPT, LLC.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2005. She then earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Duke University in 2009. After graduation, her career in outpatient orthopedics began while working for RPI Therapy Services in St. Louis, Missouri. During her early career with RPI, she became interested in treating athletes of all backgrounds. She became certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling though Kinetacore ®, taking extensive coursework and then incorporating this technique as an adjunct to her skills as a practicing therapist.

Upon returning to her home-state of North Carolina in 2012, she began working for Athletic Advantage Sports Performance and Development Center, Inc. (later named Pivot Physical Therapy). She lead community screenings, conducted outreach education, assisted in lectures in the DPT program at Duke University, and participated in educational lectures for Duke University physicians, fellows and residents. Here, Virginia used her expertise to treat acute and chronic orthopedic disorders among collegiate athletes and weekend warriors alike.

She became engrossed in the Crossfit community recognizing the need for injury management, movement re-education and sport-specific training for injury prevention. Triathletes, dancers, swimmers and soccer players alike have all benefited from the knowledge gained and treatments implemented under her care. Virginia has a passion not only for her profession, but also for her patients’ goals and performance improvement.

Virginia strongly believes that physical therapy should not be reserved for treating an ailment, it should be used to prevent injuries from ever happening. This is why her company’s motto is “go see myPT first”. You can save time, money, and bodily harm by having a musculoskeletal expert analyze your movement patterns to ensure your treatment is tailor-made for your goal…and your body.

Outside of work, Virginia enjoys spending time with her husband, Paul, sons, Jett and Cal, and dog, Rosemary. She has a great love for her family, friends, travel, cooking and all things Carolina. Go Heels!
